IKE EKWEREMADU

IKE EKWEREMADU...

lending my voice and thought

The trial of Ekweremadu and his wife was held in a London Magistrate Court on July 7, 2022  and subsequently moved in adjournment to August 7, 2022 but this time in a Crown Court,a Court of much higher jurisdiction in the British judicial system with an initial concern in the first instance and strange shadow cast over the idea of a Judge presiding over a case in a Magistrate Court.

I felt his pain and understood his peculiar circumstance.A highly placed Nigerian Politician who is equally well read with a PHD tucked in nicely in his academic kitty and forming part of his long list of intellectual laurels, in all honestly and consideration shouldn't have been in this very messy situation that is sadly, fast turning into a Soap Opera.I put the blame squarely on the Nigerian State and its culture and tradition which is usually immersed in secrecy and conjured mysteries. This issue/matter could have been handled with much finesse given his clout ,exposure and knowledge base. This could have been arranged seamlessly by qualified and respected Surgeons or Doctors here in Nigeria on his behalf or even the Nigerian-State getting involved through the in-house experts and administrators in the Federal Ministry of Health after all we are dealing with a "Statesman" who bestrided the political landscape in an active capacity not long ago and still does in an not-so-official capacity. So what's the periscope or deep thoughts on this you may want to ask at this juncture, well the respected former Deputy Senate President and his wife were in an intense and emotionally charged situation that is hardly a fertile ground for making clear cut or a pragmatic, well thought out decisions,it is easy to get apprehensive and in a muddle in such a state of mind, further ignited by a free flow of concerned emotions from loved ones and other extended family members.I can therefore understand why in apprehension  and teasing,a quick fix approach became most appealing. It all went wrong when you realise that respected consultants and surgeons of Nigerian extraction could have quietly without any brouhaha sort things out,out there in England.Oh,oh dear.

This goes to show our innate tendency in these parts /clime,a tendency or if you like,a way of life which I would in descriptive terms, diagnose  or encapsulate in these hard words-An avoidable embarrassment, people have been doing organ transplant without any hiccup before now, this clearly shows our aversion for process and an appetite for quick fix,a culture that has sadly permeated our nation-fabric.

Oh yes,he will overcome and hopefully become a learning curve and template for all us

I will continue to pray for him, let's all pray
